Just got back from break and part of Saginaw St. was shut down with a few fire trucks.  Talked to a couple of workes and they said it was a fire in the kitchen but didn't think it was a grease fire.  They said it should be opened back up soon though.

Crews were called just before 3 p.m. after a large amount of smoke was seen lingering over downtown.

City of Flint firefighters enter Churchill's in downtown Flint on Wednesday after a fire broke out in kitchen of the business.

FLINT, Michigan — No one was injured in the blaze that caused thousands of dollars of damage to Churchill's on Saginaw Street in downtown Flint.

The fire has been extinguished, but the restaurant will be closed for several weeks, officials said.Crews said the fire destroyed the kitchen.

Fire crews were called to the fire just before 3 p.m. today after a large amount of smoke could be seen over downtown.

Churchill's has been seeing a lot of work lately.  They have replaced the windows on the south half of the building and added street level doors so they can accomodate outdoor seating.  About a month ago I saw them lifting new ductwork for the kitchen equipment onto the roof.  Also the green trim is being painted red, it looks like it might brighten the outside up a little bit.
