I noticed trucks from Bierlein parked on Louisa Street last Thursday, and today saw the bigger of the two knocked down.  I think it actually came down today, as the demolition equipment and workers were still inside the wreckage.  The old Packard dealership is still standing, for now, but I'm sure it will be down shortly.  Do you cats know if the biggest building in that block is coming down too?  I hope not, but I wouldn't be surprised, as snow fence is in front of that building along Louisa as well.  I took three pictures around five this afternoon.  Unfortunately, the P.O.S. software on this board won't allow me to post them.

Rats, I tried to post that message as a reply in the original thread.  Oh well.  The old Packard dealership/mission was in the midst of coming down this afternoon.  I took a lot of pictures of it with my phone, but again, I'm having trouble uploading them to here.

Oh, behind St. Michael's?

yes.  The buildings are just now a pile of debris.  The 5 or so story storage building behind appears to be safe from the wrecking ball as it appears they are starting to clean up debris instead of adding to it.

Dang it!  I'm bummed I missed this.  Having been to a Packard plant (Detroit) and dealership turned museum (Dayton, Ohio) I would of loved to get a picture of this dealership.  BillyChillly did you ever get those pictures uploaded?

New IRS building in Flint lands state, local tax support
By Kristin Longley | Flint Journal
May 18, 2010, 1:58PM
FLINT, Michigan — More than $500,000 in captured taxes will go toward the new IRS building in Flint, state officials announced today.

The new single-story, 15,000-square-foot office complex at 901 N. Saginaw St. will be supported by state and local tax capture valued at $227,786 and an additional $287,115 in local-only tax capture, according to a statement from Gov. Jennifer Granholm's office.

The U.S. General Services Administration in late July awarded a contract to Elba Road Development LLC of Lapeer for the new IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center.

Infrastructure improvements include new sidewalks, curbs, lighting, catch basins, landscaping and public parking. The development will be leased to the IRS.

The IRS and its 44 employees have outgrown its leased office, 815 S. Saginaw St. at Court Street, its home since 1995. The office is one of six such centers across Michigan.

The project will generate $2.5 million in new capital investment and create up to 15 new jobs, according to the statement.

The support will be generated through a tax increment finance plan, meaning a portion of the increase in the tax base resulting from the development will be captured.

Has construction already begun or will it begin soon?

I'm glad to see that it'll bring additional jobs as well.  I just wish it wasn't only 15, but at least it's 15 more jobs downtown than previously.
